Nice headline.

Subtle, yet effective.

Great story. I love black labs.

Next on TotalFark, the railway will sue the owner of the dog for fare.

jsfrancis 2005-08-27 11:30:41 PM
So why does it have to be a "black" dog, huh? Are you implying something here.
The Man is always on the attack.

If it was a white dog it would have called a taxi and gotten home sooner.

la_cyberchicana 2005-08-28 03:46:20 AM
Not only could my dogs find the kitchen, they could open the fridge, pull anything off the bottom shelf, and empty out the lower drawers. Anything higher than the bottom was out of reach, they being dachshunds. On the other hand, I doubt they could have managed a train schedule. Great story, and nice headline too.

"WHEN Archie the black labrador lost his owner at a lonely Scottish railway station, he proved his well-trained pedigree and jumped aboard the first train home."

Dogspotting ? It's shiate being a Scottish black Lab dog ...

My dog knows where the kitchen is, but can't figure out "fetch" without a manual.

My Dog knows where the Kitchen is. Now he just needs to learn where the backdoor is, so that he go take a crap outside.

This is why cats are better. They understand when they're being abandoned.

Dyolf Knip: Not true. They just smell food at a house a few doors down and immediately forget that you ever existed.

Your dog need directions ---

Oh ho, I don't know what that means, but it sure sounds original and oh so humorous!

Funkydrummer 2005-08-28 05:06:36 AM
Not too dumb then. I know a blind woman who's lab deliberately misleads her every time they are supposed to be going to the vet. It goes right past the place without pausing, and takes her shopping instead. Coming the other way, it does the same thing but takes her home...

Cute story, but there was another one linked on that page which was pretty weird:

INDONESIAN authorities will force tourists visiting Bali nightspots to take random drug tests.
Bali drug squad chief Bambang Sugiarto said he was taking a hardline approach in the war on drugs.

"We tried to use educative and preventative efforts," he told the Sun-Herald newspaper.

"So, after doing that and the people still use drugs, since we have laws to uphold then we have to take action like launching raids, arrests."

Colonel Sugiarto said drug squad officers would now force tourists, at random, to submit to a urine test.

Previously only patrons found carrying drugs were forced to provide samples.

Bali's crackdown on drugs follows a series of recent Australian arrests, including Sydney model Michelle Leslie, who was caught with two ecstasy tablets in her bag at a Kuta dance party.

Leslie faces up 15 years in jail if convicted under Indonesia's tough drug laws.

Damn! Their drug policies are even weirder than here in the US. John Walters would love Indonesia. Why don't we help him move?

Dog is smarter than me when it comes to schedules.

Got stranded in Seattle twice when I missed the bus to a hotel my dad was staying at. Nothing is more fun than being 13 and stuck for 4 hours at a ferry terminal (the first time I was there for 2) in a place you barely know.

Good dog. My dogs escaped my backyard the other day. I got a call from my vet explaining that a neighbor had called in saying they were running around my street. I came home and they were waiting on the front porch for me.

Not the same thing, but at least they know where their home is.

Skwidd 2005-08-28 09:49:58 AM
My dogs are completely deaf...unless thge refrigerator is opening.

I have a black lab/daschund mix. Top that!

If the dog was smart enough to hop on a train by himself, he should have to pay the fare.

Tokenfemale; thanks for that interesting bit of trivia.

Here I was thinking it was the courtyard of an oriental cafe that specialized in dog stew.

FROM THE DIARY OF ARCHIE THE LAB:

Today, Mike, that muffin, lost track of me at the station. I waited a while, but figured he would be alright alone, (he's pretty bright for a man.) So I hopped the next train home, and that's when my luck really took a turn for the better!!

When I entered the car, it was pretty crowded. Right away, I noticed a nice poodle, about 21 in dog years, standing in the aisle next to where her master was plopped in a seat, staring out the window. She had that shaved leg poodle look that I practically have a fetish for, and the way the black leather of her collar shone in the sunlight streaming through the train windows, just had me weak on my pads. I moved as close as I could to her, before the train pulled out of the station, and as the train lurched to a start, I pretended I'd lost my balance and swayed on my paws, pushing my nuzzle into her curly white neck. The biatch kind of eyed me as I whined a quick "Excuse me!" Fortunately, she thought nothing of it, and went back to staring at the front of the car. After a minute, I slowly eased my front paws right up beneath her haunches. I saw her start, but over the next few minutes, she seemed to get used to having them there. I was in heaven! Too bad it was only a 12 minute train ride, there is no telling what could have happened!

If it was a lonely train station, and I presume by lonely they mean 'notveryfarkingbusy', then how did the guy "lose" his dog?
