while they're at it, why don't they tack on an article that'll lend me five bucks? I'm hungry.

Joshua5 2002-04-18 08:56:02 AM
All in favor of the updated save springfield/pervert bill.
NAY!
Bill defeated!

Bad_CRC 2002-04-18 08:56:55 AM
WooHoo!

Now we can rape our own land and wildlife to make huge companies even richer with less expense, AND we can use some of the money to support Israeli human rights violations, war crimes, and Genocide at the SAME TIME!!!!

thank you republicans!!

The_USAF_sucks 2002-04-18 08:57:11 AM
i live in alaska, we have the abosolutely worst dressed people on the planet living here. and horrible radio stations.. the women have no tan, and this place wouldnt know culture if it snuck up on them in bed and gave em a reach around. not to mention the stereotype that all native americans are drunks seems to be very true.
wait, whats the topic again?
screw other countries.. lets pull our troops home from their deployments and start with fixing the problems in our own country first before worrying about other nations problems.

Bad_CRC 2002-04-18 08:59:02 AM
ono, we aren't just sending them money, The oil ripped from the wildlife areas will be sent directly to Israel, because the tanks we gave them get really bad gas mileage when you drive them through people's houses, and over children.

Claude Damage 2002-04-18 09:00:51 AM
It's like they came up with a bill engineered to piss people off! Joshua5 nailed it, with a Simpson's quote no less.

KimVette 2002-04-18 09:03:27 AM
I think it's very, very cool we're going to continue to support Israel's right to exist, and to occupy the lands granted to them by the UN in 1947. :-)

KimVette 2002-04-18 09:03:52 AM
I should add:

<flamebait> ;-)

Your system of government is weird...

scarneck 2002-04-18 09:09:04 AM
Drill in Alaska? Yay

Money to Israel? Nay

We gotta keep em separated.

Hytes Xian 2002-04-18 09:09:48 AM
Why don't we just give the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to Israel so they can ship the Palestinians there? There's plenty of deer and ox to eat. Voila! World Peace!

pj6100 2002-04-18 09:10:25 AM
Ok! Let's sing about Bills! "I'm just a bill......." ahhh, forget it.

sonician [TotalFark] 2002-04-18 09:14:36 AM
Why not instead, take all that effort, time and money and develop a program to help get the United States off oil instead. That way, you will accomplish the following:
1) You leave ANWR the hell alone.
2) You can develop cleaner, longer lasting and safer forms of energy. (Solar, Geothermal)
3) You will save money.
4) You will save the environment (at least aid it in a big way)
5) You will make everyone happy. (Except Big Oil.. and they can go screw).
6) You won't have a need to remove presidents of South American countries whenever you feel like it, even if they've never been more popular.
7) Israel can be taught a valuable lesson.. that without GWB, they're very much alone in their raping of Palestine.

Is that really so hard?

LorneReams 2002-04-18 09:15:20 AM
So basically, you can tack on anything to a bill to get it to pass. I love politics. It's not about the ideas or the people anymore, it's about rich politicians trying to make each other rich while hleping their friends get richer, who keep them in office. Everyone else just gets run over by the political machine.

Dorf11 2002-04-18 09:17:37 AM
That sounds great, and I'll support it if we can tack on a 20% raise for congress!

scarneck 2002-04-18 09:17:38 AM
Well said,Sonician, but until an effective alternative is found, lets try to be a self sufficient as we can and drill Alaska.

LorneReams 2002-04-18 09:18:40 AM
I fully expect someday to hear a politician say "I'm not going to let the American people get in the way of democracy!!"

BigAl 2002-04-18 09:21:32 AM
I think we need to add a few more bits to the bill. I want beards banned as only homosexual paedophiles have them. That has a lot to do with oil drilling in Alaska as well.

Hotdog 2002-04-18 09:25:45 AM
Even I am repulsed by such political pork barrel bs like this. It's enough to make you want to move to Sri Lanka.

PlatinumDragon 2002-04-18 09:29:39 AM
If they toss on a rider that requires Bill Gates and Larry Ellison to duke it out in a ten-round no-holds-barred fight to the death with letter openers in Madison Square Garden, I'm sold.

sonician [TotalFark] 2002-04-18 09:32:14 AM
Scarneck, you can be self-sufficient, but that doesn't have to include spending 3-4 years preparing ANWR for drilling, and end up only getting about 11 months worth of oil out of it.
The Toyota Prius proves that you can look beyond oil for survival (62 MPG I might add).. and that was the equivalent of Version 0.0.11_Beta of what can be accomplished with a little effort and care.

waz 2002-04-18 09:33:46 AM
"Although the army has not yet commented on the claim, Guardian reporters in the village that day, did spot a helicopter."

Oh my god, they saw a helicopter! That proves it! Never mind that they probably see such helicopters every day over there...

hardyz1 [TotalFark] 2002-04-18 09:34:24 AM
Civilians die, big deal.

As long as it's not me, I'm OK.

Pork. The other white meat.

Czar 2002-04-18 09:37:39 AM
Anyone remember the wildlife survey the us gov made about the impact on wildlife in alaska if oil were supposed to be drilled up?

The survey sad that it wasnt recomended, it would have too much impact on the wildlife. The US gov, dismissed it, fired the scientists and now they are also cutting of funding to kids who want to learn more about keeping the enviroment clean. as in this

Hotdog 2002-04-18 09:38:02 AM
In other news, Tom Daschle is touting higher ethanol production to reduce the US dependency on foreign oil. Of course, the bill does not directly address the much higher production and delivery costs for ethanol, since it cannot be piped like oil, but since Daschle's home state is one of the higher corn producing states in the US, "who cares"?

The bill also has riders on it making it illegal to attend Barry Manilow or Rush concerts.

blah....

shreen 2002-04-18 09:39:28 AM
If we add this to the bill they can't turn it down: "Make it illegal for pedophiles to have sex with children and goats while smoking crack and committing armed robbery (on ANWR grounds -- must tie it into the real issue)." Unless you want to make all these things legal you must pass this bill.

SamTheMan 2002-04-18 09:40:51 AM
I have a question, is it true that our government is run by the Israelis, well it seems so. I don’t really mind that but, if the Israelis going to kill civilians under the name of fighting terrorism, I think we should distinguish our selves from them, and call for our high morals, support to freedom and fighting oppressors where ever they may come from.

greenhornet 2002-04-18 09:43:21 AM
Please, for the children: murder your government before it's too late.

(fark it. It's already too late.)

LorneReams 2002-04-18 09:48:09 AM
I never wished so much for tenure restrictions on senete and house representitves in my life. The stuff that goes on is scary. The strange thing is everyone knows what's going on, but we love our status quo, do we not?

ClownCollegeGraduate 2002-04-18 09:51:11 AM
Daschle usually gets orgasms whenever he hears the word "Israel". It's not like him to oppose anything that wouldn't benefit Israel.

Sheseala 2002-04-18 10:02:07 AM
Why do we let bills pork?

Sonican Ya, how much does a Toyota Prius cost? Until they bring the cost down on these fuel effecient cars, no one is going to want to buy them. I'll just stick with my gas guzzling Eclipse, thank you.

xclnt work Joshua5, but just to make it official:

TV Newsreader: With our utter annihilation imminent, our federal government has snapped into action. We go live now via satellite to the floor of the United States congress.

Speaker: Then it is unanimous, we are going to approve the bill to evacuate the town..

Congressman: Wait a minute, I want to tack on a rider to that bill: $30 million of taxpayer money to support the perverted arts.

Speaker: All in favor of the amended Springfield slash pervert bill?
[everyone boos]
Speaker: Bill defeated.

Newsreader: I've said it before and I'll say it again: democracy simply doesn't work.

1000Airplanes 2002-04-18 10:16:36 AM
just to play devil's advocate, one could make an argument that when considering a really bad bill, one could attach another stupid ammendment to insure its defeat. done with the devil.

This is why a line item veto is important. This goes on every single bill that goes through congress. I bet the campaign finance reform bill had all sorts of idiotic pork barrel ammendments attached to get pols to vote for the overall bill.

Anybody watch louis black last nite?

adm_crunch 2002-04-18 10:22:49 AM
Funny at all the 'Bush double-whammy' comments. Bush wants the drilling, but the Israel part was added to appeal to Democrats. They are the ones who like Israel. I get the feeling that Bush could care less.

scarneck 2002-04-18 10:23:17 AM
The Toyota Primus is a step in the right direction, I guess, but totally impractical for me. I could never get out of my driveway with it.

There's more oil in Alaska than 11 months worth, anyway. Why do you think there are so many Russians that feel they should take back Alaska, by all means necessary?

Funny how their geological reports differ so much from the ones those opposed to drilling refer too.

rassleholic 2002-04-18 10:31:44 AM
Party X proposes a bill to fund research into the legitimate uses of hemp.

Timber, rope, soap, and floss companies contribute campaign money to Party Y and would lose revenue if hemp were ever legalized and would not be so inclined to give money to politicians.

Party Y quietly attaches an amendment to the bill calling for the mass slaughter of kittens.

If anyone in Party X votes against the bill, they are weak and are in the pockets of corporate America(this does not apply to party Y since they weren't the ones who proposed the bill in the first place). If they vote for it, they are for the mass slaughter of fluffy kittens.(no one in party Y would vote for it because they are well aware of what would happen if they voted for the mass slaughter of kittens.)

blubberknife 2002-04-18 10:32:35 AM
It's pretty clear from the way the Bush Junta has been operating that they DO NOT give a flying fvck about democracy (witness their reaction to Venezuela's crisis), human rights (turning a blind eye to Israel and China), or the environment (ANWR, et al). The only thing Bush cares about is money, oil, and advancing his right-wing christian agenda. These people think they are ordained by god to rule this country, and dominate the world by any means. We are living in a fundamentalist dictatorship thinly disguised as a democracy.

Should be interesting to see what excuse they use to steal the next election.

Rosalea 2002-04-18 10:34:16 AM
maybe this is just oregon state law...but I could swear its illegal to have two unrelated things on one bill.

or is it because they're helping isreal by giving them oil from anwr (as though there is soooo much), that counts as related

and if its going to take years to prepare the area just to get the oil and then years to get it.....hows that gonna help isreal who's oil contracts are up in 2 years?

Hotdog 2002-04-18 10:34:43 AM
Should be interesting to see what excuse they use to steal the next election.

Yeah seeing as how we can't use the 'Dumb ass democraps in Florida can't vote correctly' excuse again......

get over it.

FuzzyMonkey 2002-04-18 10:43:22 AM
These guys are absolutly shameless.
Though I wonder what people expected when they installed the oil industry to the highest elected office in the nation...

Czar That cartoon is terrific!

Scarneck Admittedly there is contention about the amount of oil there. There are also differing reports on the potential environmental impact. The thing that I can't stand is that people act as if this is the only oil in Alaska which is a big bunch of bullhocky. ANWR was set aside for a damn good reason thus the distinction of being a wildlife refuge. The oil under ANWR is not the sole domestic cache of petrolium and the oil barons have yet to make any compelling argument that their motivation is not pure and simple greed.

I have a question, is it true that our government is run by the Israelis, well it seems so.

Not true, unconfirmed quotes from that vocal-diarrhea sufferer Sharon notwithstanding. There is a powerful pro-Israel lobby known as the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee, and American legislators tend to be very pro-Israel, either due to personal stance or the aforementioned lobby. I have no idea why - just one of those things, I guess.

Just whisper "AIPAC" around a representative, and watch him or her squirm.

It's the second-biggest lobby on Capitol Hill. I don't know what the biggest is.
