Used fire trucks are really cheap, why I don't know...most are real low mileage and come with all the goodies. A guy around here has 3 that are used in parades.

"Whitecastle has been buying up old firetrucks since 1997"

Classic unintentional pun.

he should move to CA and open up a brush fire fighting operation with the ones that work.

my mother's old fire department.. yes i said mother.. (she was the first female fire chief in the state of Georgia many years ago), has a fully functional 1956 American LaFrance. Beautiful truck. I wish i had pictures of it. That truck is used regularly to this day to fight fires (as far as i know.. haven't checked in a lil while).

still pretty cool though! wish i had the spare change to buy it.

Anyone else think of parades as mastubatory for the town? As in getting off by showing it's self how awesome it is? No? I'll shut up now.

Are most parades even held by the town/city? The only two I ever watched were the annual baseball/softball parade at my local park and Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

A friend of mine that has his own bodyshop did several firetrucks for a guy. These were not antique trucks, just older ones that needed a little freshening up. The guy he did the work for had a knack for finding older firetrucks and finding a buyer for them. Guess someone has to be the middleman.
I remember several late night trips using the firehose as a prank.

Ok, now, it's official. We're now supposed to talk about the Haha guy. I mean, Jeff said we did, so we must now.

/looked back to the Alligator-killin' dog story. Not one threadjack. But damn, haha guy's gotten big. What about a size filter to stop the bigness, Jeff?
//Just sayin' about it.

mikeyb_houtex 2005-07-18 12:44:07 AM
Oh, ok...

It's cool the guy has lotsa firetrucks. It'd be biatchen to see them all in a parade, ya know.

Interesting story, and Mr. Whitecastle seems like quite a personality to meet, but holy fark, that article was annoying to read. You can almost see the author laughing to herself as she wrote gems like:
...because people like to steal the emblems, for their vast emblem collections, no doubt)
and
...riding along with a bunch of Raiderettes on board. Rough life.

Chicago holds numerous every year, but I thought this watching a small, local parade the town over from my parents this year.

This guy has a sweet TANK collection. Let's hear it for the Bay Area Hoarders of Big Things!

Fark has a sweet collection of HA HA guys. The parade is still going on on the HA HA thread, apparently.

And yet this man is not subjected to ridicule like the (female) cat-hoarding whackos regularly are. They both obviously have a mental disorder.

What would be even better is a crew of 112 midgets to drive them.
