i hope this goes down in history like the awards show that cut off sinatra.
It won't, but i wish it would.

Jilaad 2005-07-02 07:45:14 PM
Does anyone know what companies' ads were shown during that commercial break? I think our campaign will be more effective if we let the sponsors know how we feel about their ads being shown instead of PF, as well as letting MTV know.

amishjihad [TotalFark] 2005-07-02 07:49:27 PM
I second Jilaad!

scraping-fetus-off-the-wheel 2005-07-02 07:51:09 PM
MTV does not care. They do not care about music. All they care about is maximising the advertising dollar from a focused segment.
MTV does not care.

Go out and buy some stuff you whiners.

pwhp_67 2005-07-02 11:58:13 PM
MTV still thinks MJ is the "king" of pop.

Eveyone working for MTV should be fired and replaced by people who will put some variety on that station.

GreenL 2005-07-02 11:58:19 PM
Thats pretty bad, green farking day got to butcher Queen uninterrupted, but Pink Floyd gets cut off. Thats why i watched it on VH1. Even if it was the same or whatever, i cant stand to put my tv on mtv.
Faarkieboy
You better be kidding.

Kado 2005-07-02 11:58:30 PM
MTV sucks.

RavinDave 2005-07-03 12:00:36 AM
Hawhahahahaa-hahaha

In another thread here, I just posted:

Of course, I sure miss the MTV coverage of the original. Remember Paul McCartney playing IN THE IN THE FRICKING BACKGROUND while some doofus MTV VeeJay was explaining the technical aspects of their press-passes? And when they finally put the focus back on the singer, they IMMEDIATELY cut back to 10-minute head-shots of the MTV staff since we were MUCH MORE interested in Martha Quinn's reaction to McCartney than we were to McCartney himself.

Back then (beyond the evident years and/or memories of most kidlings here) they tried to blame it on camera direction done without rehersal, blah-blah ... general confusion ... blah ...

Give'em another twenty-some years and they may get it down, eh?

Funnelwars 2005-07-03 12:00:39 AM
Mtv is evil.

feersumenjiin 2005-07-03 12:00:56 AM
MTV and VH1 should be bloody ashamed of themselves, I have been looking forward to seeing the reformation of Pink Floyd for weeks and I get 2 wanker VJ's talking over Comfortably Numb then they cut to commercials the bastards. I hate MTV/VH1 even more than I did before, they can play all the cRap they like because I won't tune in again. Coonts!

GreenL 2005-07-03 12:02:42 AM
oh Kado. What MTV does far exceeds sucking. I dont even think there is a word for it. Ill have to make one up.
MTV redriledgifies. Yeah, thats good.

Faarkieboy: Old n' busted

New hottness

That new hotness looks pretty busted to me.

skiler78 2005-07-03 12:03:33 AM
This is why i watched it live online. Uninterrupted coverage and no asshat commentators talking over performances.

Omegamerc 2005-07-03 12:03:36 AM
I thought MTV didn't play music anymore? Just (non)reality spin offs and farking commercials.

TheEvilGenius 2005-07-03 12:03:37 AM
Preach it. I was so farking pissed when they went to commercial.

I was like...this shiat better be taped and they're coming right back to it, but NO. What do we get Stevie farking Wonder.

Farking disgusting. Farking disgusting

Ebenator 2005-07-03 12:03:40 AM

picturescrazy 2005-07-03 12:04:06 AM
My question is... how is MTV still in buiseness? Who the fark is still watching that electronic filth to give them any sort of ratings? I say someone with more, uh.... energy... start a boycott of products advertised on that awful pile of shiat.

I'll sign it.

/pissed but lazy

damitjim 2005-07-03 12:04:10 AM
I'm still shocked with these whiny ass celebs that come out with these insane numbers without checking them. It makes them look even dumber.

Commercial cut... "every 3 seconds, a child in Africa dies". Are they aware that's 10.5 million a year? If there's that many dying, how are there any adults there? Seriously...

TownDrunk 2005-07-03 12:04:20 AM
MTV is the biggest pile of crap ever. Real world/road rules marathons, R&B 24/7. Absolute trash. The only good things on MTV EVER were Beavis and Butthead, Jackass, and Headbangers Ball.

/end rant

PINK FLOYD.

wjllope 2005-07-03 12:05:10 AM
i wanted to see this set (badly) but was way too busy at the time - anyone have a link?

pickle98 2005-07-03 12:05:12 AM
Personally speaking...MTV has gone to more commercialism than showing real rock videos. Where in the heck has the real music gone? It has gone down hill. MTV had no right to do that to Pink Floyd or any legendary band that has been around 20 plus years. I grew up listening to rock-n-roll and several other genres of music and MTV has gone too far this time.

I'm just wondering how long it will take before MTV executives realize that they made a major mistake with putting commericials in a reunion show. To me, they should run the show commericial free and terminate the executive producer and director of the show.

GreenL 2005-07-03 12:05:31 AM
VH1 at least is able to entertain me on occasion with i love the 80's and Most(and Least) Metal moments and the 100 greatest hard rock bands. But MTV is absolutely ABYSSMAL. People that watch MTV these days think Nirvana is classic rock and Good Charlotte is punk! GOD! It absolutley sickens me.

vhold 2005-07-03 12:06:16 AM
'It' will only go away if you stop saying it's name and you completely ignore it.

You know what 'it' is.

causewithoutarebel 2005-07-03 12:06:22 AM
that was sad just sad...

so historic! and now let us cut to commerical..

/kills them all

vosgienne 2005-07-03 12:06:47 AM
AHAHAHAHA

Now it's finally sinking in to all you blind consumerists idiots that companies care about one thing ONLY!!!

MONEY!

Ford being questioned about seatbelts:
Q: Are you arguing that seatbelts don't save lives?
A: No, I'm saying that they cost money to implement.
Q: But aren't you as a car company responsible to some extent to the consumer?
A: Ford is not a car company, it is A company, with the single goal of maximizing profit. If I could make more money making toothpaste, Ford Motors would be churning that out tomorrow.

PracticeSmiling 2005-07-03 12:07:20 AM
Why is anyone surprised about this? MTV stopped living up to its name a long time ago.

doccm9 2005-07-03 12:07:50 AM
picturescrazy:

Kids.

The Traveling Retard 2005-07-03 12:07:51 AM
It's just sad when you have an iconic moment like that, cut off by a station who, at one time, would have run the whole Live 8 without a commercial interruption.

Now... it's just a sick, self-ingesting waste.

/not surprised

picturescrazy 2005-07-03 12:08:07 AM
GreenL,

Both bands you listed have guitars, and so wouldn't have been played on MTV for at least 5 years.

GreenL 2005-07-03 12:08:08 AM
lol @ insane. they may have taken that as a racial slur. But your right.

daddio 2005-07-03 12:08:44 AM
man I am probably older than most of you but you all sound like a bunch of freaking geezers... hey you kids get off my lawn!!!!

Who cares, pink floyd stopped being good when they released dark side and now are just a bunch of old stoners.

jchic [TotalFark] 2005-07-03 12:09:11 AM
MTV has always blown. I remember when they did "The Wall" live at the Berlin wall, did MTV cover it? Nope. Had to listen to it on the radio.
