Six months. Wow. It seems like both yesterday and years ago that it happened.

Six months? What kind of anniversary is that? Can't we just wait until September 2002?

Grundular 2002-03-11 08:35:18 AM
Eerie to read it again. Brought back the same feelings of "Jesus farking christ I can't believe this is happening".

i was like Ctrl+R all day with Fark. i had been awake for like 40 some hours. so weird.

Skidnuts 2002-03-11 08:38:26 AM
I actually found out about the WTC attack from Fark. Woke up about 11 CDT, came to Fark and saw the unreal headline 'PLANES HIT WORLD TRADE CENTER, PENTAGON'

As someone in the thread stated almost immediately, I thought it was some dumb joke.

I wish I was right

docwra 2002-03-11 08:39:47 AM
I still remember this well - fark.com was about the only site that didnt go down.
As 9/10 says, it seems like both yesterday and years ago

I had read the archived comments again not too long ago and it brought tears to my eyes. I want to extend my love and sympathy for those Farkers who lost someone that day, and to all Farkers in general. We all lost something, whether it was our innocence, feeling of security, or our hope. I can only wish for everyone to be able to get through with a renewed sense of community and love for our fellow man, no matter who they are. We are changed, all of us. And we shall overcome if we have each other.

Luckygirl 2002-03-11 08:41:51 AM
Flown a couple times since then. I always look around the cabin and wonder what would have been like. Then I try to forget.

CharlieBrown 2002-03-11 08:42:19 AM
I just got goose bumps rereading those comments.

I watched the WTC special last night. I thought it
might be cheesy or thrown together.
It was very well done. I did'nt realize that the
Firefighters in the 1st tower didn't know that the 2nd tower had fallen.

Corvidae 2002-03-11 08:42:43 AM
Attic1212: Well said.

digitaldevil 2002-03-11 08:44:42 AM
It's hard for me to read the posts from 9/11. I started looking at them and began to tear up. *erg*

Doug 2002-03-11 08:45:35 AM
My site didn't go down either due to 9-11, but in the days and months that followed, I did see an increase in traffic regarding my New York City photos (a photo of the lower Manhattan skyline, including the WTC, from August 2000, taken from the Verrazano Narrows Bridge is among the photos in my collection) due to the increased interest in the area that 9-11 brought about.

Nabb1 [TotalFark] 2002-03-11 08:46:08 AM
I watched the documentary made from the footage those French brothers gathered who happened to be doing a documentary on the NYFD when it happened. I think one of the worst moments was when one of them was focusing on the first tower that was hit, then you could hear jet engines getting louder just before the second one hit. Just gave me chills.

Mas Tequila 2002-03-11 08:47:09 AM
Did anyone catch the CBS special last night? I missed it, but was like to catch it another time. Does anybody know if it will be aired again?

screw my isp bandwith over, lots and lots of highres pictures I collected from the WTC.

Zog the, um, magnificent 2002-03-11 08:49:45 AM
The CBS documentary was much more classy than I expected from US network TV. No mention of a re-run but I'd bet on early September.

Never forget. Stay angry. Return the favor to countries who "host" terrorism. Repeat as needed.

Big Props to Attic1212 I sat here reading these and remembering my best friend in the world sitting on an airforce base outside of Detroit...scared to death. The chaos that swirled around the whole situation from bomb going off at the state department to thousands of other "been confirmed" things posted shook me to my soul. sitting here locked in a cubicle trying to figure out ehat and why it was happening...man im tearing up and shaking again. I'm sure this will cast me thousands of dollars in therapy by the time im 35.

Boobiesontheside 2002-03-11 08:51:39 AM
Man, i was in the school parking lot, listening to lex and terry. They were they only station covering the story. the rest of the bastards were still running their pretaped morning programs. My stomach hurts from reading and remembering.

squinth [TotalFark] 2002-03-11 08:51:52 AM
I remember how Fark was that day. It was simply amazing. We were all so united. I remember frantically trying to find info on my daughter's flight, as she was supposed to fly home that morning. It was so comforting to have everyone's support. I was also watching it all unfold on MSNBC and was trying to put up news and updates as fast as I could while other farkers were doing the same. Fark.com most definitely changed that day.

I steeled myself and ventured into the 9/11 farkives awhile ago, and I was glad I did. I had mixed emotions, but I made myself continue. It was somewhat cathartic for me.

To any and all who lost someone on that day, my heart is with you. To any and all who are in the emerency response field, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. For any and all who serve and have served this country, I respect, admire and thank you. You are all true heroes.

Pastey 2002-03-11 08:53:54 AM
Brings it all back doesn't it? Man, what an awful, awful day that was.

And even at the very moments the towers were collapsing we had *ssholes on here saying "you deserve it America".

Just goes to show that some people are so farking stupid even a national tragedy can't pull their heads out of their *sses.

ayesha999 2002-03-11 08:54:24 AM
Wow, that's powerful. I remember spending that entire day on Fark and giving updates in #fark off the TV.

*deep breath and moment of silence*

eerie...farking eerie.

Deus 2002-03-11 08:55:09 AM
Wow. Goosebumps.

I remember three things:

The horror of the Pentagon hit, and then the towers falling.

Bush saying "We are all New Yorkers."

The picture that gal drew of Ms. Liberty holding the baby and the revolver. "The most dangerous place in the world is between a mother and her children."

I disagree with our government's decisions 99% of the time, but hitting civilians is wrong. These guys (the terrorist network) deserved everything they got. It's like what Leon says in The Professional.

"No women, no kids."

Galadriel 2002-03-11 08:55:46 AM
I literally got chill bumps reading them again. I actually think that I am more affected by it now than I was then, I was just in such shock, I really didn't feel anything (thank you, emotional defense mechanism).

I can remember listening for the answer to where the flight originated because my uncle is always on an airplane somewhere (business trips). Thank God, it wasn't on one of these. I can't even fathom the pain the families are still experiencing 6 months later.

attic 2002-03-11 08:56:23 AM
Squinth, your posts that day ripped my heart out. I sincerely hope everything worked out for you thereafter.

Wow...in the middle of my flight to Atlanta this morning, I just realized that attacks happen 6 months ago today.

*silence*

BaShildy 2002-03-11 09:01:27 AM
I'll never forget waking up to the phone and hearing the news. I didn't have a TV or an Internet connection so I walked down to the gym of my apartment complex. A neighbor and I watched the footage as the towers fell. I couldn't bear watching the replays on CNN anymore, so I left.

I hadn't eaten the night before and I really didn't feel like cooking at the time, so I drove over to the Supermarket to get some Chinese food. When I walked in, there was no noise in the entire store. An old black and white television was plugged in and was tuned into the news. It's reception made the picture barely recognizable, but I knew what it was showing. I could hear every footstep's echo of the customers. People that were together didn't talk to each other, no one did. I saw 2 women picking out Grief cards, with absolutely no expression on their face. I swear I will remember that moment until the day I die.

I don't think it totally hit me until on my commute to my night class the radio played a British Congregation singing "The Star Spangled Banner." Not only did they sing another Country's anthem, but one that describes a War in which they were our enemy. I completely lost all my concentration and thought, only thinking about that song. We happened to have a pop quiz that very day. It was the first time I had ever gotten a 0%.

In a couple of months, a friend of mine from DC and I are going to visit Ground Zero. I will be proudly wearing a Fark tee shirt, and thinking of you. I urge you to do the same if you can.

"There's a webcam apparently on the 77th floor of the WTC. Were there any grabs from that?"

anyone ever hear/see anything about this?

British 2002-03-11 09:05:40 AM
I think FARK was the very first indication I got of the WTC attacks. Never will forget seeing the first all-caps headlines, nor the day fark had all Sept.11-attack related stories.

scotcheyed 2002-03-11 09:05:56 AM
I wasn't a farker then, but reading those comments is pretty amazing. Three things occur to me:

Farkers can be such assholes that even then people were saying America was getting what it "deserved". Farkers are still assholes and still saying this.

Farkers can be such assholes that even then people were talking about nuking "ragheads". Farkers are still assholes and want to go nuke "ragheads".

Most of the farkers were awesome, helping one another out. It was really nice to read.

That special on CBS was eerie. i started watching it when they were having news casts from around the world played. sad that the world knew what was going on and the people in the buildings didn't really know.

moment of silence.

Interesting that this link/thread should be adjacent to the Britney 'story' - especially as the first thing The Onion (finally) bounced back with was this:

Attic1212, thank you. My daughter couldn't contact me and I could not contact her for three hours. It was pure hell. Having fark and farlers most definitely helped me keep it together.

For all of you farkers who were in here that day and offered me comfort, I thank you. We were like a family that day. I'll never forget it as long as I live.

Is anyone here from or in Martin County, NC by some 1 in a million chance? If so, I need your help on an issue related to these posts.

Mme.Mersault:That said... People need to put a lot more effort into getting along and realize that the deity of their choice isn't dying for. If your god tells you to kill, tell him to jam it and get a better one.
My reactions weren't helpful to anyone, and weren't a viable solution to the problem. I'll just go ahead and blame PMS, yeh, that's the ticket.

I couldn't have said it better myself... makes me glad to believe in collective consciousness personally...
except the PMS part... i feel for you on that one...

yeah it was a day we will never be able to forget, our generations moment, although waht I find the most disgusting is how all the movies are getting edited to remove the towers, lke the 1970's King Kong, and Spider man, it just seems wrong to try to pretend that these landmarks never existed where spiderman could have been dedicated to the memory of the people who died there they opted for the Cop Out and just remove them, just rember how powerful that trailer was when you first saw it, now imagine how powerful it could have been if it were left in the film, its like Marvel did a DC and just opted for the stupid decision. oh well

jkalnin 2002-03-11 09:11:08 AM
and the award for "first to figure it out" goes to Bluefenderstrat for being the quickest farker to figure out it was Bin Laden.

and the award for "dead wrong" goes to Corporate Mofo for saying the towers would not collapse.

Weeks later, I had reason to be on the 40th floor of a building overlooking the harbor, along with several other people. We were looking out over the harbor, and one of the other people there said that she couldn't believe how high up we were.

I couldn't resist observing that we were only about 1/3rd as high up as a pair of famous building were, and that anybody that was above where the planes hit were at least twice as high.

I think I made her ill...

HappyDaddy 2002-03-11 09:13:54 AM
Forgot to mention that I also watched 9/11 last night. It was remarkable. The calm bravery of the firefighters is humbling. If you didn't see it this time, don't miss it next time.
