Then, after a few phone calls, the source of the story was found - FARK.com, a joke news Web site, similar to The Onion.

Waitaminute.... you mean people on Fark post fake news stories???

/appalled

MadFarker 2004-11-30 10:49:49 AM
Fark.com....its not news...its Fake.com !!

mahakala 2004-11-30 10:50:10 AM
pwn3d.

/Very long article for such a simple hoax

shrinkydink 2004-11-30 10:50:29 AM
No sir. I don't see it.

AcornMan 2004-11-30 10:50:55 AM
The funny thing is that I never even saw anything like this on fark.

aengus66 2004-11-30 10:50:58 AM
I think what cheeses me off is that Fark keeps getting compared to the Onion. Can't anyone figure out that while, from time to time, a fake news story does pop up (labeled as SATIRE for fark's sake), that FARK is a portal to real news (and boobies) that just has better headlines?

/retards.

mahakala: Very long article for such a simple hoax

That's because the author of this story had about 30 quotes from other stories or websites... all fluff.

Number9Number9 2004-11-30 10:51:24 AM
I heard it on our local radio station. Hoax - ha!

Mr. Clarence Butterworth 2004-11-30 10:51:40 AM
Now how do you get one over on lazy morning zoo radio crews that rip off both stories and comments from FARK?

CaptStubing 2004-11-30 10:51:44 AM
But, the story was obviously fake. It purports to come from TV station WTF-TV.

Heh, funny.

mryoop789 [TotalFark] 2004-11-30 10:51:44 AM
"WTF" is short-hand for a colorful expletive phrase.

Really?? What phrase is that?

Pfil 2004-11-30 10:51:46 AM
Tell me again, why does anyone believe anything that comes out of the media?

Bfett20 2004-11-30 10:51:50 AM
damn....we are fake now. rock on

enave 2004-11-30 10:52:00 AM
serves the journalists right. lazy bastards. All you have to do is pick up the phone and call the police station or the site of the incident. But noooo, that'd be too hard.

Someone should get fired over this.

A Day Older than Yesterday 2004-11-30 10:52:34 AM
Does that mean the opinions are Fark are fake too???

/Never sweats during Flame wars - that must be why.

//Knows full wel that the spelling on Fark is VERY fake.

Then, after a few phone calls, the source of the story was found - FARK.com, a joke news Web site, similar to The Onion.

What the hell? The last time I checked Fark and the Onion were two entirely different types of "news" reporting. I feel a letter to the editor type thing coming on.

Hanky [TotalFark] 2004-11-30 10:53:10 AM
A JOKE news website?
It's not news...

I think that MSNBC is miffed that they may have to do real journalism instead of relying on Fark all the time.

Lazy journalism begets more lazy journalism.

Santa's_Dog 2004-11-30 10:53:34 AM
And the "journalist" reporting on the story about poor reporting, calls Fark a fake news site like the Onion. Is that ironic or just stupid? I forget sometimes.

zvoidx 2004-11-30 10:53:42 AM

Um...since this is not actually true about Fark - that would MSNBC'S story ironically inaccurate...

How about investigating first?

Atvar [TotalFark] 2004-11-30 10:54:33 AM
Wow, you'd think that journalists were supposed to check facts or something.

shigelojoe 2004-11-30 10:54:42 AM

Heh, too bad the "joke news" stories are put up for the express purpose of cathing the legitimate news outlets (who shamelessly steal from FARK without proper credit) with their collective pants down.

Geotpf 2004-11-30 10:57:02 AM
Was this a satire link (probably posted without the Satire tag)? If not, this entire story doesn't make any sense. In fact, even so, this entire story doesn't make any sense, because 95%+ of the stories here are real, or at least proport to be real (I mean, pravda.com and a few of the other sources used frequently here are about as reliable as the Weekly World News).

So, basically, MSNBC sucks at the Internet as much as ABC radio does.

An article about misinformation, giving misinformation.

Onion != Fark on any level of comparision.

Christi [TotalFark] 2004-11-30 10:59:18 AM
That is really funny. The reach of this place freaks me out sometimes. ;)

tbase 2004-11-30 10:59:30 AM
I think it's ironic that the article credits Fark for the story, when Fark only had a link to it. You'd think they'd properly research a news story about a news story that wasn't properly researched.

/my head hurts

Webgrunt 2004-11-30 10:59:32 AM
Most news stories contain glaring inaccuracies like this. Reporters are either retards or liars.

NikolaiFarkoff [TotalFark] 2004-11-30 10:59:32 AM

Faux news fairly unbalanced.

Hey, did anyone see Reno 911 a couple last week or the week before? Several members of the Reno Police Department were protecting Kenny Rogers at a book signing but to keep the location secure, they ripped down all the signs telling people about the book signing. And then at the end, Kenny gets shot by a deranged fan. I couldn't help but think of the episode when I read this.

Lord_Dubu 2004-11-30 11:02:26 AM
Phear,

I noticed that Mancow, rips the Fark headlines, almost verbatum, and in pretty much the same order they're listed on any given day, and gives no credit.

Basically at the end of the day today, look at the fark.com articles. Tomorrow turn on the cow, and when he does his little 30 second headline lists note how similar it is to fark.com...

me thinks one of his interns must be a farkophile.

justanotherfarkinfarker 2004-11-30 11:03:36 AM
I bet my lazy ass local morning radio show read that hoax as news. they always do the lazy bastards... then never list a correction or admit they are asshats.

minigoat 2004-11-30 11:03:42 AM
I dont think thats considered 'power'.
plagerizing commercial "hook" lines is NOT funny.

Ahh... no wonder all the Reuter-Guantanamo tactics "tantamount to torture" threads are being red-lighted. FARK is sashaying into being a joke.

Website. A joke website...

Yep, Fark is just like The Onion, except it has real articles and lacks the 7 billion pop ups and redirects.

The online Onion can suck it.

I wonder if some pants were pooped
When they found out they were duped
Or if like Seindfeld's chum Poppy
Pissed the couch for being sloppy?
