that *might* be the funniest thing I've read this week.

He'll just turn around and sell it for $130.02

charmed1782 2004-11-26 05:17:09 PM
Now what is going to be really funny is, when the envelope is scanned through some kind of anti-terrorism homeland security x-ray machine, and all the money is wiped off the card!!

HHAHAHAHAA!!

D B Cooper 2004-11-26 05:22:17 PM
Yeah, but it's reloadable.

So, who else emailed this buyer? I let him know I had a $50 gift card from BestBuy that I'd sell him for $55. I didn't mention FARK, but I let him know that the link was on a pretty well read website.

Winning bidder: nascarfan82088

It just so beautiful in it's own simplicity, that poor bastard is probably watching wrestling in his doublewide, wiping mayonaise off of his chin with a Walmart exclusive Dale Earnhardt commemorative beach towel, completely oblivious to the people making fun of him at his expense.

Just...beautiful

SecretAgentWoman 2004-11-26 09:09:34 PM
I would have bid, but I lost my Walmart. :(

whatshisname 2004-11-26 10:05:06 PM
Yeah, but its for WalMart, so he can buy stuff that would have cost $200 at other stores! Duh.

Two buyers bid over face value.

I guess it was a good thing cottonpickinnig didn't win. or crazymuslim. or burritoboy23. or lightintheshoeslarry. Then we'd have to deal with those other sterotypes. Did I forget anyone?

You know - the ones you get your panties all in a twist about.

This incident was pretty funny until I read your post.

Nascar Fan isn't a race. Stereotyping based on what you watch on tv not only works fine, but it's funny as hell.

I recall seeing this happen on the egghead.com auction site years ago. People would just get carried away by the thrill of bidding and submit bids above the retail price. The stupid this was that egghead had a retail web site and an auction website. Most of the items they sold in the Dutch Auctions were also available in the retail site. Some bidders never bothered to check what the retail price was when they placed bids.

For some reason egghead lost money and went out of business years ago even though they had people like nascarfan82088 placing bids.

I kid you not: do a search for "Gift Card" (in quotes) on ebay. The very first link I pulled up was this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=31411&item=5537118959&r d=1

Followed shortly by:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=31411&item=5537168851&r d=1

The second one's not quite as funny, but I still find it funny that someone is spending $50 on $50.

Oh come on now, it's still funny.

Though everyone knows NASCAR fans can't afford double-wides.

/The only thing that sucks more than NASCAR is WWE/TNA/ITLAH Wrestling

Pathman 2004-11-27 03:08:30 AM
yeah Mikeyjoe18... i guess if idiots buy, why not? most of these cards are either stolen or aquired in bulk, so they'd be making profit UNDER face value...this is just the proverbial cherry on top... i ran into it a few months back looking for itunes gift certs....couldnt find ANYTHING that was even remotely close to a good deal and a good 2/3 of them were either right at cost or over--some significantly so. amazing...

Gee. You're right. "Nascar Fan" is not a race. Sure. and I am the Easter Bunny.

I guess you're suggesting black, Mexican, Pakistani, "Nascar fans" indulge in the following behaviors, and I quote:

"that poor bastard is probably watching wrestling in his doublewide, wiping mayonaise off of his chin with a Walmart exclusive Dale Earnhardt commemorative beach towel"

Denial is the moral relativists best friend. No white stereotypes there. You can go back to your dreamworld buddy. Let the realists duke things out here.

I see an image of the Virgin Mary on that card!

C'mon...go back even more in time, when it was OnSale. People would put little comments on their bids stating that it was getting close to retail, but the morons just kept on bidding higher...

Sarsin 2004-11-27 03:13:18 AM
These are the poeple that are resposible for Puting Bush in power to murder American troops, to get rich. But to support the other guy is a SIN

I so wasn't going to go there....although, these are the people that are voting on finanical issues. No wonder nobody cared about the deficit or Social Security.

pseudo_human 2004-11-27 03:13:57 AM
I wish I were "Puting Bush" right now. Another thank you goes to haidux. Awesome is what you are.

redstormpopcorn 2004-11-27 03:14:08 AM
Most of the bids on that look like bots jacking the price up.

DigitalFarmer 2004-11-27 03:15:15 AM
It's kind of like Wendy's advertising on the big sign that they take VISA, nothing like financing a turd at 14%APR.

If Dale was a better driver maybe he wouldn't be DEAD.
Actually, what I find amusing about the former Mr. Earnhardt is that he publically called all the drivers asking better safety gear crybabies - just a short time before he died, due to lack of adequate safety gear.

Sometimes Fate is both cruel AND funny!

wildancrazy159 2004-11-27 03:16:59 AM
i think it cost's more than face value to buy a gift card,$5.00 bucks or so...........
still not worth the wait, unless your having it sent to someone else thereby saving postage and the couple bucks for the card.............

pseudo_human 2004-11-27 03:19:12 AM
Whatever happened to just stealing stuff?

/gift cards are for suckers anyway

wildancrazy159 2004-11-27 03:20:58 AM
oh, and going to wally world, waiting in line ,buying the card and then going to the post office.

GoodyearPimp 2004-11-27 03:23:28 AM
Big deal. Stupid people get caught up in auctions all the time. Common sense gets chucked in favor of "winning". At a local street fair (apparently when the real items were running low), they auctioned off raffle tickets. These tickets were available at practically every vendor and there were special vendor for them to boot. IIRC, they were $1 tickets (plus they had deals for 6/$5, etc.) that sold for 1.25 each. Idiots plain and simple.

It's a Wal-Mart card. It costs exactly what is on the card. You put $10 on a gift card, you pay $10.

/Was a cashier for 6 months. Has moved on to much better things.
