When people finally have proof of life in other worlds, their lives will be shaken... and perhaps.. hopefully... Organized Religion will crumble, and then we can start anew without all the rampant corruption.

Then we can all start worshiping Skail's wang.

Or we'll be cruelly enslaved by our alien overlords and forced to worship some other god on pain of death.

It could happen.

zibby 2004-08-12 10:19:43 AM
the Interfax news agency reported.

Why the Hell does everyone on here think the whole world, including the news media, reads Fark?

The article clearly states where AFP got the information. I worked in radio and TV news for more than six years and had never heard of FARK until I tried Pluck a few months ago.

Get over yourselves!

Fark is a funny website. I enjoy reading it and submitting links. Journalists are not sitting at their computers slamming F5 waiting for the next story to be posted.

Shut........UP 2004-08-12 10:20:39 AM
wow, I see the anti-religious crowd is under the delusional notion of utopia as the religious crowd. Just come over to our world view and the sky will be bluer and all the peoples will live in harmony and sing kumbyya while a massive love fest ensues...

I don't even know what the background of this is, but the headline doesn't say: "AFP picks up 'Siberian scientist find spacecraft' story."

It's a little harmless fun.

Get over yourself.

1) It was an explosion in the atmosphere (most likely a small comet).
2) It was reproduced in a lab by a Russian Scientist using matchsticks attached to wires.
3) Russian news agencies must be bored.

zibby 2004-08-12 10:33:00 AM
I don't even know what the background of this is, but the headline doesn't say: "AFP picks up 'Siberian scientist find spacecraft' story."

Gee, there's a big, blue AFP logo to the left of the headline and the link goes to an AFP article. It doesn't exactly require a giant leap to conclude the submitter is implying AFP got the story from Fark. And when exactly did this story appear on Fark? The only other stories about this I could find are red-lighted TotalFark stories.

mryoop789 [TotalFark] 2004-08-12 10:33:38 AM
The problem isn't religion. It's the people who run it and participate in it. The problem is us. Well, that and all those damned capri pants.

Agreed. Growing up it was:

Preacher:"You WILL wear a necktie to church, just like the apsotles did. And cut that hair. Jebus would never wear his hiar that long!"

Me: I'm a nazarite

Preacher: Don't get lippy, that's "Nazarene."

Me: Mumbling "Marcionite bastard"

/sigh

waz 2004-08-12 10:41:43 AM
The link I submitted with this story was ABC News... wasn't that reputable enough?

/oh, and it had a funnier headline too

Calmamity [TotalFark] 2004-08-12 10:53:57 AM
The "behold the power of Fark" part of the headline has nothing to do with who picked up the story when, you monkeys.

We built the space ship.

MMMWAAAHAHAHA!!!

GaidinBDJ [TotalFark] 2004-08-12 11:19:21 AM
Reputable news source? Impossible when the link goes to Yahoo.

And FYI, people all across the country rip off Fark. Most common is morning-radio DJs coming up with wierd stories. You can almost see them going down the list.

"Reputable news source? Impossible when the link goes to Yahoo."

They get the majority of their news from Reuters and the AP.

doccm9 2004-08-12 11:55:10 AM
Zibby, I've had a couple of radio stations contact me of all people about Fark to ask questions through email. Oddly enough, I have listened to them at one time or another in the past few years.

Fark has also made up stories and/or linked to false stories to see who would pick them up (it's not news.....) A few of the big boys did, including CNN.

/spends way too much time here

Skail [TotalFark] 2004-08-12 12:00:08 PM
ElVee: Then we can all start worshiping Skail's wang.

You mean there are some who don't, yet? Heathens. My Wang will smite them all.

Mr. Bungle At Work 2004-08-12 12:15:53 PM
Just another ploy by the liberal Jew media to take our minds off of the important matters of the present.

"It was an explosion in the atmosphere (most likely a small comet)"

Just FYI, it is no longer a comet when it enters the Earth's atmosphere... it then becomes a meteor. Then , if it makes it to the ground, it is a meteorite.

/end message

pnaimoli 2004-08-12 12:18:47 PM
the headline makes it sound like fark made a tracer article to see who would pick it up.

sandreckoner 2004-08-12 12:19:02 PM
All this time I thought rampant corruption was a potential problem with humans in general. Here I find out it's those damned churchies' fault.

Rev. Skarekroe [TotalFark] 2004-08-12 12:20:44 PM
Eclectic, your post reminds me of this old chestnut:

'A boy asks his father to use the car and the father replies "No, not until you cut your hair!". The boy replies "But father...Jesus had long hair!" to which his father says, "Yeah, but Jesus walked everywhere."'

Heh heh, yeah.

TwizeeK 2004-08-12 12:21:48 PM
And next week on Fark these Russian 'scientists' get to be on Russia's Special Olympics team!

mathmatix 2004-08-12 12:23:07 PM
hey zibby, first, walk over there and pull your panties out of your arse.

feel better.....

secondly, damn near every radio station i listen too, every late night show I watch use fark for their headlines. Sometimes they use the headline of the submitter as the actual joke, thats almost a guarantee for confirmation(but its not, i understand). Next time your favorite dj or late night tv host begins his stupid news or monologue segment, pull up fark for that day and read for the funnier headlines. Odds are they are being spit out by the tv or radio before you can click on them.

Saying all that, fark is not the end all be all of news. Radio newscasters, and many others have been doing this for much longer than fark has even been around. But having fark, makes their job a lot easier to find those 'crazy, weird, offbeat' articles.

/yay for fark

burgniel 2004-08-12 12:23:37 PM
Anyone else getting angry about all the repeat stories being greenlighted on FARK lately. It is like some stories get posted every two days.
Did you guys hear about the bus in Chicago that..... oh nevermind.

MelGoesOnTour 2004-08-12 12:24:02 PM
I don't believe a word of it...unless, of course, it is 40 Mt of trotyl equivalent.

I like to read the "News of the Weird" in the City Paper, it keeps me up on Fark articles from weeks past.

hey mr.wizzard, no offense, but what does furniture and moving have to do with a reporter to lazy to do research and found an article on fark and decided to run with it.

one too many windows open, eh?

burgniel 2004-08-12 12:25:48 PM
oh yeah, I was watching Dennis Miller live last night (I was tied up and gagged, but that is another story) and ALL OF HIS HEADLINES at the opening of the show were the same as on FARK yeasterday and even in the same order. So I think Drew should be gettin himself some royalties.

mathmatix 2004-08-12 12:28:09 PM
burgneil, did you hear there is a volcano going to erupt in yosemite and a big rock going to fall in to the water and kill the entire east coast with a 'tidal wave'....lol

/know its tsunami, mainly bait....
//there are a lot of greenlit repeats.

smookyfufu,

Judiasm doesn't rule out life on other planets. No where in the old testiment does it say, we on earth are the ones and only.

Not sure about any of the others.

If you could create life on one planet, why would you stop there?

Just my opinion.

zibby,
You know, I used to think that too. Then one day I was watching Headline News, and EVERY SINGLE ITEM on the ticker was almost word for word a Fark headline. Probably some pissant AP who amazes the producers with the great stories he "finds".

trapped-in-CH 2004-08-12 12:32:02 PM
I for one welcome our new Overlord, Fark.

well, I kinda do. At least it'd be entertaining.

ski_adk115 2004-08-12 12:32:17 PM
Yeah, but what if the religious manuscripts are nothing more than an interpretation of alien visitations. Think about it...angels descending from the heavens, chariots of fire streaking across the sky...

//wonders how I come up with this stuff before 4:20.

The tsunami (more commonly known as a tidalicular wave) will counteract the volcano by putting out the lava. Both evil forces of nature will cancel each other out so the day will be saved.

/The Powerpuff Girls told me so.

Greetings,
Giving the average "morning zoo" dj way too much credit and giving local radio stations way too much independence. The various deejs get their script from the ClearChannel/Viacom/ConglomerateX mothership. Of course the lackey who writes the script is just hitting print on the fark page so it winds up the same.
But still, on your way in to work, would you rather hear "craazzzzeee Bob and the wakeup crew" in the morning read you Fark or something he came up with on his own?

I dislike Jay Leno very, very much but one night you Farkers should watch his monologue. I guarantee you there will be something in it that was mentioned that day on Fark. It happens every time. It has become a drinking game 'round here.
