The readers will log the times students pass through the gate and alert the school when they approach designated "dangerous" premises

Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch???

RFID is how the NWO will track your bathroom habits when they take over the world. Its also how they keep track of inventory when they sell you to the Martians for hideous experiments.

U know, upon reading that article I to thought of a bunny with a pancake on its head.

pollomacho 2004-07-09 08:36:46 AM
If you are trying to imply something about them reading the kids' consumer info or tracking them for some sinister purpose, I think it's time you got your tin foil hat adjusted.

Is there a Lo-Jack joke here somewhere??

adm_crunch 2004-07-09 08:37:57 AM
A tracking system like this may be able to provide some safety, but the risk of someone abusing the system is so very high.

Next, we'll display targeted ads on the billboards tailored to the tastes of the people walking by at the moment. But in order to know what they like, we'll need to gather as much about their personal lives as possible, etc. etc.

designated "dangerous" premises, according to the Kinki Bureau of Telecommunications

I'd want someone less kinki to designate dangerous places..

May I be the first to blather on about 'end times' and 'number of the beast' theories?

I may? Thank you.

mc frontalot 2004-07-09 08:42:31 AM
Why are there "dangerous places" inside a school?

pour_soul 2004-07-09 08:43:08 AM
all your japanese student are belong to us.

if you think that is scary just wait until you find out about the turd counting device attached to the sewer pipe under your house

Lethal 2004-07-09 08:47:35 AM
You wouldn't want the students to come anywhere near that vegetable stand now would you?

Borninfire 2004-07-09 08:48:43 AM
It's the beggining of the end.

Heh. You can defeat that one, but it takes years of practicing a method I like to call "sphincter control."

The gov't thinks a family of fiber-addicted midgets live in my house.

Just to refresh my memory...the bunny w/ the pancake on its head is refering to that story where the girl stole a bunny...and when confronted put a pancake on its head? Am I correct or am I losing my mind?

chenry 2004-07-09 08:52:42 AM
I'd say this is a bad idea, but Big Brother might be watching.
Hence, I shall praise the initiative and such.

"Just to refresh my memory...the bunny w/ the pancake on its head is refering to that story where the girl stole a bunny...and when confronted put a pancake on its head? Am I correct or am I losing my mind?"

No, the bunny (now dead) was the pet of a japanese guy who made a website where he posted hundreds of pictures of it with various objects balanced on it's head.

I think you migth find it if you search for "japanese rabbit balancing"

Chibisuke 2004-07-09 08:58:23 AM
Oh... and his name is Oolong. Which is the name of a type of japanese tea. And the pig on DBZ.

SlowTimedRapid 2004-07-09 08:59:29 AM
This will be effective, but only as a prevention against theft of the tagged belongings rather than as a prevention against abductions.

Now that the whole world knows where the ID devices are being placed, a kidnapper will just take the relevant items off the kid and ditch them within the school before taking the kid away.

Indeed, the school system might get complacent and decide that because a student is tagged as being inside the school there's no possibility that he could be elsewhere, and it could stop keeping as close visual and other track of the whereabouts of students.

So what you could get is a school system where objects are stolen less and children are abducted more.

"Japanese school puts RFID tags on students, claims it's for their safety."

Follow up: Japanese school girl foils RFID by sticking it in a pancake, and leaving it on a bunnies head, tentacle pr0n ensues.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

You know, those are great with a little bit of maple syrup on them. And so are the pancakes.

poorgirl 2004-07-09 09:16:08 AM
Wow, big brother anyone?

And cute pancake picture. Had that as my profile pic for a while.

A dangerous place in Japan:

Snow25 2004-07-09 09:24:52 AM
this remindsme of the japanesse movie Battale Royale Tracking the kids on the island.
Great movie but. Not enough credit in North America though.

CokedUpWerewolf 2004-07-09 09:29:01 AM
But more importantly, how can we help them love big brother?

MyDingDingDong 2004-07-09 09:29:04 AM
I actually this this is A Good Thing

Those little runts can really go into places you'd next expect them to be you know?

moheeb 2004-07-09 09:37:18 AM
So the government would know if you were a heroin addict by the weeks of no turd followed by days of butt pee?

Lemmon714 2004-07-09 09:43:02 AM
moheeb hits a little too close to home on that one

/hoping the gummint turd-tracker is not yet fully functional in my town

elendilmir 2004-07-09 09:45:04 AM
I remember when small RFID tags came out and I ranted my tibnfoil hat wackiness and my friends said "they'll never put them into animals, IMPRACTICAL!". Then they did so, you can get one for your dog today if you wanted to. Again I ranted with the paraniod tinfoil hat stuff, and they said, "Never in humans. Nobody would stand for it".

AAAAAAGH! When the hell will people wake up and realize that nobody has the right to know where you are standing? You can give up your privacy, but I STILL WANT MINE.

optimus_prime 2004-07-09 09:46:05 AM

Oh, the horror! God forbid I should see an ad tailored to my tastes, such as a bikini-clad babe selling beer, instead of a tampon ad or an ad for liver or something equally useless to me.

d00fy 2004-07-09 10:07:35 AM
Richard_Feynmans_Big_Toe : It's not martians, and they don't sell them, they barter.

Get your facts straight!

cheapimmitation 2004-07-09 10:13:03 AM
I just got a new id at work, now that i'm no longer a temp, but an hourly employee. no more green id, now it's red, and if i sit on it it will stop working, or so they say.

i'm sure they are tracking me by it. seeing how often i go poo and watching me take meandering walks during lunch.

is there any non-invasive way to find out if there is an RFID tag in it?

how big are these tags anyway? my id is credit card sized, but a hair thicker. is this big enough to get one of these tags into?
