What the hell is this safecount cancer that is killing FARK. Pop ups and pop unders and slideovers that keep showing up. It's my buddies laptop I'm on right now so "get a better browser" doesn't apply, he won't let me install stuff on it.

I've never seen it before, am I going to see it when I go home and use chrome or firefox?

Last night the paramilitary beat me up. I guess that's because I was on neither there side nor the side of the demonstrators (not protestors - they were anarchists and 9/11 Truthers in Schenley Plaza).

Either that or because I was a zombie.

The rest of us have better browsers and have never seen it. Use farkback to have you complaint officially addressed. The folks that run this place are very serious about advertisers not making life miserable for their visitors (at least that's what i hear. I use ff+abp).

I guess that depends on what you do, naked. What's your line of work?

OregonVet [TotalFark] 2009-09-27 09:51:08 AM
Drink naked.

When the officer asks if you've had anything to drink, do you want to just answer, "Yes" and not tell them until after they've dragged your ass in to tell them that it was a liter of water?

pdrake [TotalFark] 2009-09-27 08:39:57 PM
you really don't want to fark with the police in those situations. a friend of mine that worked for the police dept. told me the only good answer for any traffic stop was, "no". innocent until proven guilty.

OregonVet [TotalFark] 2009-09-27 09:22:17 PM
"Yes, coffee." It's looking for probable cause. End the conversation right there.

Stormneedle [TotalFark] 2009-09-27 09:58:13 PM
Fine. I'll just give them a lecture on the amusements of using jargon when communicating with individuals from a different profession. Information is power, and they've no reason to turn that down, right?

If they can't take a joke, don't fark 'em.

pdrake [TotalFark] 2009-09-27 10:25:18 PM
so, i bought a package like this on friday at the international market.

i made laab/larb tonight. i put 2 red ones in with 1/2lb of grnd beef (finely sliced). i'm sweating my ass off now. i heard that if you freeze them they'll keep for a year.

whew, good stuff. i think i paid .79 for the whole package which was bigger than the pic.

My "experience" is if you asked "somebody" if they were "drinking" they could tell the "truth". It is not like asking if they were "drinking alcohol" - which may invoke "Miranda". They could have been drinking anything.... But if the answer is the typical "two beers" there is cause to delve further. In the former, with no other "evidence", "have a nice day". But any "spontaneous" admission of a "consumption" of a beverage involving "alcohol" may result in a "field sobriety test" which is designed to foul your evening "sober" or "not".

I thought they were just trying to get their nose in the vehicle. I told a cop I hadn't been drinking and was still pulled out of the vehicle for a fst. He said smelling alcohol in the vehicle was probable cause. I was the DD for 3 others who had been drinking.

hazeleyedwolff: I thought they were just trying to get their nose in the vehicle.

This too. The smell is more "evidence". Just as standing in the right position while "reading" one's license allows the officer to observe "horizontal gaze nystagmus" which, indofar as I believe is the most reliable FST. At one time I was able to acurately predict a BAC within .01 points that way. But any "spontaneous" remark indicating a person has been "drinking" is probable cause for the FST. One guy I tested in a training exercise (ten soldiers drinking for training must have been fun except for the few who could only have one or two) was dumbfounded as a former student of ballet he aced the "line" test and I was the only MP to single him out. "It's your eyes; you're at a .12." There's a dozen things an officer is looking at during a stop to determine if someone needs to be arrested on suspicion of DUI or DWI or whatever they call it near you. I mean .081? That's ridiculously hard to observe of most folks in the field. Unless of course they hit something or say "just a vodka martini at lunch"....

Yah, I was wondering about that myself over in the FPF. Is that a Farker's band or something?

Hehehe. I follow on Twitter a guy who works for Fine Woodworking magazine. This was one of this morning's tweets:

"Padding on last few coats of shellac today. I'll rub it out and then post pictures tomorrow or Wednesday."

What's the new logo?

Okay, it's gone now. For a while, the "F" in the address bar was some funky atomic-structure-looking thingy.

No, that was your superXtreme microscopic vision showing you the F atoms.

When it's over Mad and every square inch of you is covered in flour we'd appreciate pics, and a culinary review of the finished product.

OregonVet [TotalFark] 2009-09-29 06:24:35 PM
Dammit- you had to post it.... TWICE. Now there will be no chance of me not consuming a pastie in the next seven days. I hope you are satisfied. The only thing going for me is a quick trip to Marquette next week. But I have nearly everything on hand at the moment. Must resist. Must... GAHHHHHHHHH

rockymom 2009-09-29 08:39:12 PM
Damn it Mad, you just *had* to post a link that included the recipe. My hands automatically saved it in my favorites to make throughout the winter.

Evil, evil temptation-poster!

redhead88 2009-09-29 11:15:09 PM
Last post did not go thru...maybe the Jim Beam...anyhow....Mad...per the link, pasties=small circles. I always preferred medium, with rhinestones. I will be the hero @ fish camp (Cave Run Lake KY, Musky capitol of the South) and deer camp (Athens County, OH). Any reason one can't make a big batch, freeze them and bake later? I don't see why not.. Will start experimenting tomorrow. Fish camp in 2 wks.& half those guys won't eat if not Mickey D's. Will force feed.

So the money pit opens this Friday. That's when I buy my nephew's Vanagon. Step 2 will be installing a Subaru engine

redhead88: Any reason one can't make a big batch, freeze them and bake later?

No reason at all. Take proper care and you'll do fine. Hell I've seen them wrapped in foil and stuck in a snowmobile to heat. For hunting it's better to heat, wrap in foil and relish in the warmth until your hunger overtakes you. Suggest big breakfest first else it won't make it to the stand. Or you could have two- one for the hike and one for the stand. I urge caution, however, you may let a buck walk by before you would chance losing the pasty. Then again, I'm sure another buck would come along.
