The Fark Classified Ad System. Lately we've been deluged by plugs for people selling things on eBay, their bands, their friends' bands, and god knows what else. I've linked in a few on the main Fark page, but there's just too many these days. However, I do think these links are part of what makes Fark a community.

So here's the solution: Fark Classifieds

Important points:

  • Put your links into rotation in front of over 10,000,000 page views per week
  • Five random links will display on the main Fark page in the sidebar (changes every 15 minutes).
  • See how many clicks your ad has gotten in its comments forum.
  • Use the comments forum to add further description, receive honest feedback, and answer any questions people may have.
  • Anything goes, as long as it's legal and conforms to the Posting Rules. You can advertise eBay sales, your store, personal ads if you'd like to meet someone who shares at least one thing in common with you (Fark), your blog, your own bands/websites/Photoshop contests, or just make a statement.
  • It's acceptable to have a descriptive Title/Headline, but it can not be graphic. Fark reserves the right to make appropriate changes to Titles/Headlines if they are deemed inappropriate or a violation of the Posting Rules.
  • Fark does not offer discounts for bulk/long-term advertising.
  • If your Classified ad violates the Posting Rules at any time during the rotation it will be pulled and you will not be entitled to a refund.


Cost for a seven day rotation: $40 for a fun message, a single eBay auction, or a link to your own content-driven website. Examples: i-mockery.com, x-entertainment.com, morons.org. If your website consists of Safe For Work boobies-type content, you need to select the $100 level. Boobies tag is off-limits for these ads

$100 for a the following:
• An e-commerce website. If you intend to make money with this ad through sales or referrals, it's an e-commerce website
• Links to multiple eBay auctions and eBay stores
• Any dating-related website
• Free iPod, desktop computer, flatscreen TV, etc etc links

$200 for all boobies links and Not Safe For Work links (because these get 5-7x hits)

To purchase a classified ad, submit the link to our queue (see How to Submit Classified Ads below). You'll be walked through the Paypal payment process immediately after link submission. Payment is required in advance. Fark does not invoice. If you wish to purchase a banner, skyscraper, or other type of ad - please use Farkback and provide detailed information regarding your needs. Links will remain on the Classifieds page for seven days.

Note: If you accidentally underpay for a link, you'll get a system message saying so the next time you log in. There will be a link to the Donate To Fark page to remit the balance.

How to Submit Classified Ads:

  • Just do it the regular way by clicking on Submit a Link and entering in the normal information.
  • If it is a $200 or $400 link - choose "Boobies" from the pull-down menus.
  • Be very sure to click the Classified button however, and after submission it will prompt for payment..
  • Also, don't type in link titles IN ALL CAPS OR WITH 1000!!!!!!!!!!! MARKS!!!!!!!! because the filters will edit them down.
  • Try to make the link title as interesting as possible, because people will come look at an amusingly titled link. They like to laugh as much as we do.


THIS PART IS IMPORTANT: The email address you pay for the link with must be identical to the email address in your Fark user profile. If it isn't, you will have to provide that information in the Farkback form. Should we need to contact you about your advertisement, we will use the email address you provided with your payment. If that email address is incorrect, no longer working, rejecting inbound mail, or otherwise ineffective - a system message will be sent to your user profile. Click on the My Fark tab and login to view your profile and message.
