Fark Interviews Kate Mara from 'Transsiberian'
by Dr. Mike Falcone
At Fark.com, we occasionally get to do things from time to time. This was one such time. But it wasn't just a "thing" - it was a COOL thing! We were graced with the opportunity to interview the very beautiful Kate Mara, star of the new movie Transsiberian, opening July 18th (also starring Woodie Harrelson and Emily Mortimer).
The only thing that could have made this cooler is if it was over drinks... Kate sounds like she knows how to party. But c'est la vie - here's the interview:

Fark: In the movie, it looks really freakin' cold. Where did you film? In Russia?
Kate Mara: We were in Lithuania, and you're right -- it was the coldest I've ever been! I'm from New York and it gets pretty cold here in the winter. But it was pretty miserable in the dead of winter there.
Fark: Who did you become closest with during the filming?
KM: Emily [Mortimer] and I were obviously the only girls, even if there might have been some other girls in the set... There weren't many. Emily was in every scene and she's an incredible actress, so I kinda looked for her.
Fark: She pulled off an American accent pretty well.
KM: I think her American accent is flawless. I honestly forgot [that she's not American]. It wasn't an accent to me, you just kinda forgot about it.
Fark: What was it like working with Ben Kingsley, besides him being short?
KM: If you see the film you'll notice the only scene I'm in with Sir Ben is really difficult to watch, so it sort of doesn't really count as doing a scene, because we barely connect because of the situation of the scene.
Fark: Wait, him sticking a knife in your leg, you didn't connect on that? I thought that would have been an instant connection.
KM: [Laughing] I certainly will never forget it.
Fark: How was Woody [Harrleson] during the movie?
KM: Hilarious. Really fun, you never know what he's going to say. The first night we were there we had a very small cast out for dinner, Brad Anderson [Director], Emily, Woody and I were walking back to the hotel and because of all the snow, Woody decided to have a snowball fight. So that kinda opened everyone up, having a snowball fight in the middle of winter in Lithuania.
Fark: What scene or part made you really identify with the movie and say this is something I really want to do?
KM: Its hard to differentiate who's good and who's evil. Certain people you think are bad end up being good and vice versa. That's what I liked about the script, people have layers and you never really know who somebody is, people change.
Fark: I heard this somewhere that people who smoke in movies now are portrayed as the "bad guy" so to speak. Do you find a connection with that?
KM: I don't really know, in the older films it was cool to smoke, but now, I'm not sure.
Fark: Is that a perception you find or see?
KM: I don't smoke, never have, but for some roles I have. I'm not sure I agree with that, but I can see why some people might see that.
Fark: One last thing...how awesome was the Giants win in the Super Bowl this year?
KM: [laughing] It was incredible. Impossible to describe. It affects everyone in my family equally. [Editor's note: Kate's grandfather was Wellington Mara, an owner of the Giants. Her father and uncle currently serve as VP and CEO of the organization, respectively.]
Fark: Were you able to go [to the Super Bowl]?
KM: Yeah, I went with my family. It was amazing and really exciting.
Fark: Well that's about all I got. Thanks for taking the time to talk to Fark.
KM: Thank you and very nice meeting you!
